IECEP, PSITE spearhead 1st Caraga ICT Congress

The Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. (IECEP) Caraga Chapter with the Philippine Society of Information Technology Educators (PSITE) Caraga Chapter led the first ever Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Congress at the Almont Inland Convention Center in Butuan City on February 18, 2009 with the theme: “Caraga, Collaborate, Connect.”

IECEP and PSITE organized the Congress with the strong support from the ICT Industry Cluster, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Caraga, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Caraga, TESDA Caraga and the Butuan City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation, Inc.

The IECEP organization has been very active in working on its missions and goals especially in activities such as the ICT Congress which drew support with the presence of the IECEP National President Engr. Romulo Agatep attending the Congress. Also present during the Congress were Engr. Ted Buenavista, the Regional Director of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) Region 10 who is at the same time a member of the Board of Directors of the IECEP National Organization and Engr. Alex Maureal, the Governor of IECEP Northern Mindanao Region.

“We are very pleased to have Engr. Agatep and Engr. Buenavista in the Congress as well as officers of the IECEP Northern Mindanao Region led by Engr. Maureal.” Engr. Demetillo said. “This made the event more special because of their presence”.

Commissioner Monchito B. Ibrahim of the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) graced the occasion who served as the keynote speaker of the Congress and the plenary speaker for the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) session. Commissioner Ibrahim who came all the way from Manila talked about the job opportunities that the BPO industry has during this economic times and global recession.

The Congress drew over one thousand student and professional participants from the Caraga Region making it the grandest and largest gathering for the first time of the Information Technology, Electronics Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering students from the different higher academic institutions.
